WASHINGTON — After a snowstorm forced Washington’s holiday kickoff to pause the weekend after Thanksgiving, organizers regrouped to deliver a full slate of festivities this Saturday, Dec. 13, filled with traditions, treats and local spirit.
Main Street Washington’s original alert explained “the difficult decision to officially cancel all events scheduled for tomorrow” because “the safety of our community, participants, and volunteers is our top priority!” The group acknowledged disappointment and added, “We appreciate everyone who helped us prepare.”
Those plans now return with fresh momentum. The Jingle Bell Run will go forward indoors after Main Street Washington announced a location change “due to cold weather.” The group said “Steve & Co are determined to have their fun run!” and offered “huge ‘Thank You!’ to the Washington YMCA for helping them host this event!” Organizers reminded runners to “please remember to bring a clean pair of shoes” for the indoor track. Registration remains 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday.
Families can also start the day at Breakfast with Santa at the UP Church. Organizers invited residents to “start your Saturday morning with Breakfast with Santa, where you can enjoy pancakes, meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and make a holiday craft!” They noted that “Madison Fishback Photography will be set up to take your family picture for the perfect memory keepsake.” Lions Club volunteers will cook breakfast, and tickets cost seven dollars for adults and three dollars for children age 3 and older.
After breakfast, the Washington Performing Arts Center will welcome audiences for The Reason for the Season holiday variety show at 3 p.m. Promotional materials highlight “A Few of My Favorite Things” as the theme and note that the performance benefits HACAP.
Moviegoers can end their Saturday with screenings of Elf. Show times in Washington are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday.
