Washington band students earn SEIBA Honors
Jan. 31, 2022 10:37 am
Washington High School and Middle School had four students audition for the Southeast Iowa Bandmaster (SEIBA) honor band on Jan. 8 in Fairfield.
For the audition process, the students had to prepare scales and etudes on top of a solo piece for high school students.
After one round of auditions, students were either outright accepted to the honor band, not accepted, or selected for a second round of auditions. Recall audition usually require less material than the first audition, but at a higher difficulty. The tradition of seeing the final accepted postings on the wall of the gym at Fairfield hasn't changed and this year marks the first return of live auditions and the festival since 2020.
Congratulations to the following four students who all earned South East Iowa Bandmasters Association Honors on Saturday. Selected to the SEIBA honor band were:
High school: Teague Mayer- Tuba, son of Curt & Jamie Mayer, Levi Applegate-Euphonium, son of Lee Applegate & Angie Hall, Mikaila Matheson- Flute, daughter of Barb Matheson
Middle school student: Keven Raymundo-Clarinet, son of Adriana Gonzalez and Mario Raymundo.
All four of the students performed at Clear Creek-Amana High School SEIBA Festival on Jan. 22.
