Washington High School staff said goodbye to this year’s graduating class at an award ceremony Tuesday night, where grads were honored with various scholarships and commemorative awards.
The event was bittersweet as the group looked back on a year of accomplishments.
“This senior class has had great leadership in all facets,” District Activities Director Brent Van Weelden said. “This year has been pretty exceptional. In the fall, we won conference titles, in the winter we won conference titles, in the spring we won one conference title, and I have no doubt we’ll be vying for more this summer … congratulations and thank you for what you’ve done and what you’ve all been involved in.”
High School Principal Teresa Beenblossom recognized the class’ parents.
“Parents, thank you for everything that you’ve done, you’ve all done a really amazing job,” she said. “This is a great group of kids. I am proud and honored to be able to serve my first year at the high school with this group.”
For some, it was a hard goodbye to make.
“Congratulations seniors, you all make me cry, because I cannot believe that after tomorrow I won’t see you in the hallways,” guidance counselor Kathy Stender said. “It’s going to be very emotional for us teachers.”
