Washington changing yard waste pickup

WASHINGTON — The city of Washington’s yard waste pickup schedule will change later this month.

Beginning the week of June 21, yard waste will be picked up on the east side of town on Tuesdays, including the east side of Second Avenue. Yard waste on the west side of town, including the west side of Second Avenue, will be picked up on Thursdays.

“The reason for the change is that we want to avoid having the garbage and recycling route the same day as yard waste,” City Administrator Deanna McCusker said. “The change will help alleviate some of the congestion we are seeing with the garbage/recycling trucks and city trucks and yard waste bags being missed since they’re right next to or behind garbage and recycling totes.”
