The Washington Choral Society is putting on their Christmas concert titled ?Joy,? which will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening in the United Presbyterian Church. The choral society will be joined by a group of singers known as the ?Sound of Washington.? The Sound of Washington is a group of 26 special-needs adults that was formed in the spring when the group performed its first concert at Hamakua Place.
The idea for a joint concert was hatched last summer when Mike Jewell, the director of the choral society, spoke with Lila De Penning, one of the coordinators of the Sound of Washington, about having the two groups sing on the same stage. Jewell and De Penning agreed that it would be a good idea, and so began the planning for ?Joy.?
De Penning said she recently noticed there was a need for a group like Sound of Washington when she learned that special-needs people were going out of town to sing.
