DES MOINES — Washington County 4-H Member Ava Greiner was named in the top five for the $20 challenge at the Iowa State Fair’s “Awardrobe” competition Aug. 7.
The event for 4-H’ers in grades 9-12 drew 149 participants from 70 counties this year, according to a press release shared by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The organization said the $20 challenge entailed purchasing an outfit for $20 or less from garage sales, consignment shops or clothing resale stores, emphasizing the concepts of reusing, recycling, reducing and repurposing.
Other events in the competition included clothing selection for specific occasions, handmade clothing, and an “Innovative Design” category that encourages competitors to “think outside the box.”
Other Washington County 4-H’ers involved in the competition included Marlee Greiner and Adrianne Blauvelt, according to a press release shared by Washington County 4-H Youth Coordinator Amy Green.
