Washington County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Robyn Hoppman was arrested for alleged “domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury,” according to an arrest report filed early Thursday morning.
“The Washington County Communications Center received a call of a possible domestic altercation,” the arrest report said. “Hoppman … indicated there was no argument or physical altercation. upon speaking with the other party, (she) told us she had been hit and kicked numerous times and had her head slammed into the tile multiple times by Robyn.”
The case is being handled by the state, according to that arrest record.
“Washington County Deputies responded and requested the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol … due to one of the parties involved being a Washington County Deputy,” the arrest report said.
Washington County Attorney John Gish, citing a conflict of interest, filed to appoint Louisa County Attorney Adam Parsons to handle the case according to another court document filed Wednesday morning.
Washington County Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson declined to make a statement on the incident.
“(It’s) a bad situation, the State Patrol’s handling it,” he said. “Since it’s being handled by the department of public safety, more than likely they’re going to be the ones that do the official press release.”
