WASHINGTON — A handful of Washington County elected officials swore their oaths of office Tuesday morning, before the start of the new year. While none ran contested races in November, the routine ceremony represented a change in status for two department heads in the local government.
Tammy Stewart’s oath marks her officially as the Washington County Auditor-elect, now prepared to take the reigns with the departure of Dan Widmer, the office’s only candidate of over a decade, who plans to retire at the end of this calendar year.
For County Attorney Nathan Repp, the swearing-in process serves as a reminder that he’s now a democratically elected member of the local government. He was previously an appointed replacement to former County Attorney John Gish, who resigned to take a state-level position in early 2023.
Also taking oaths Dec. 17 were a handful of other officials who won re-election. That list included Supervisors Jack Seward Jr., Stan Stoops and Bob Yoder, plus Sheriff Jared Schneider. A handful of deputy staff members serving with those officials swore in as well, including Assistant County Attorneys Shane McChurch and Jennifer Lerner, and Deputy Auditors Amber Armbruster and Michelle Hyman.
