WASHINGTON — There were over 70 years of service from three county employees honored during a Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting on Feb. 10.
The trio of Michelle Hyman (Auditor’s Office), Karla Davis (Sheriff’s Office), and Pamela Miller (Sheriff/Jail) were honored during the meeting with a presentation of certificates of recognition for their years of service.
Miller was honored for 20 years, Davis for 25 years, and Hyman held the most seniority with her 30 years of service.
“This is my second job out of college. My first one was the bank in Keota for a while, for a year, and then I interviewed here,” Hyman said, reflecting on her career path. “And I didn't know how long I'd stay here, just an opportunity to expand and then 30 years later, I'm still here.”
Reaching this milestone was never a goal for Hyman, but her commitment to the job has led her to being a stable and dependable presence within the county. With no desire for a change of scenery, Hyman plans to remain in her position until the eventual next stop of retirement.
Hyman, who works at the Washington County Courthouse, still lives in Keota to this day and uses the commute to get ready for a work day filled with book work, interacting with department heads, and dealing with payroll/bills.
A lot can happen in 30 years, and change can be closely associated with time passing, but Hyman, along with Miller and Davis, show job consistency is possible and worthy of praise.
“Thinking back on the last 30 years,” Hyman began, “somebody brought it up to me the other day. I've been through five auditors and three free financial systems for software and lots and lots of different employees that come and go, and it's just amazing to think how long it's been.”
