National 4-H Week begins Sunday, a week to celebrate 4-H and its impact on the community.
Members and volunteers plan to promote 4-H in various ways in communities across the country.
In Washington County, there are several social media contests running throughout the week to encourage 4-H'ers to share their 4-H stories and challenge completions which enters them in 4-H PRIDE Prize Package.
There are 4-H locker signs in the schools and a coloring contest open until 4:30 p.m., Oct. 10. Each day has a different theme and challenge.
Monday is 'Maker Monday.”
Club members are challenged to 'chalk the walk” with 4-H pride by making an outdoor chalk creation showing what 4-H means and why others should join.
Tuesday is 'Tasty Tuesday,” where 4-H'ers are encouraged to enjoy a meal with their family together.
Wednesday is 'Wear it Wednesday.”
Club members are encouraged to 'go green” in their 4-H gear to show their 4-H pride.
Thursday is 'Thoughtful Thursday” and encourages 4-H'ers to serve others with thanks and random acts of kindness.
Friday is 'Flashback Friday,” where 4-H families past and present are invited to flood social media with flashback photos of favorite 4-H members.
Washing County 4-H is ranked in the top 10 largest 4-H programs in the state.
Last year, there were 376 members in fourth through 12th grade and 190 Clover Kids in kindergarten through third grade.
'Washington County 4-H is proud to have such an active and supportive community of these special events and our youth,” Amy Green, Washington County 4-H youth coordinator said. 'National 4-H Week is the perfect time to get enrolled in 4-H for the new year as clubs are kicking off the new year this month.”
The County Council has prepared a video to promote 4-H to fourth-grade classrooms with a folder of goodies.
