Washington County Republican Facebook post a point of controversy

The Washington County Republican Central Committee Facebook page has gained attention for a controversial post regarding President Donald Trump's comments about four Democratic congresswomen.

On the page, a video is shared of a news clip of President Donald Trump telling those who are unhappy with the country to leave. Those words and the tweets that followed have since been called racist.

KCII Radio posted a screenshot of the post on Tuesday, July 23, that read, 'It certainly is time somebody called out The four Democratic terrorists for who they are? I'm glad we have a president that Calls it like it is. Very simply They hate America !!” As of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, the post was changed to 'called out the four incompetent Democrats.”

The Washington County Iowa Democrats posted a response to the message on their Facebook page on Tuesday, July 23, that read, 'The Washington County Democratic Committee will always stand with our immigrant communities and recognizes what an incredible asset they are to this state and our country. Posting this kind of hateful rhetoric about our elected representatives, who are just doing their job, is wrong.”

KCII also reported there were nine comments from other Facebook users about the post. Later in the day, only two were shown and as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, the number rose to six comments, all supportive of the statement made by the page curator.

An attempt to speak with a representative from the Washington County Republican Facebook page was unmet.
