Every year, the Washington County Board of Supervisors appoints 28 residents of the county to serve as members of its Eminent Domain Compensation Commission. At the moment, however, several seats on the commission are empty.
“The County is in need of four more individuals that are city or town property owners, and also four for Bankers, Auctioneers, Property Managers, Persons Responsible for Making Loans on Property and Property Appraisers,” Board of Supervisors Administrative Assistant Amber Williams said.
The commission has a very specific composition required by state law. One fourth of the members must own or operate agricultural property. Another fourth must own property in a city or town. Another has to consist of licensed real estate salespersons or brokers, and a final quarter must have “knowledge of property values in the county by reason of their occupation,” like auctioneers, appraisers, or property managers.
Those interested in volunteering can contact Williams at the Supervisor office: (319) 653-7711 or email awilliams@co.washington.ia.us.
