Washington city officials cut the ribbon on the remodeled municipal building Tuesday, seven months after construction was completed.
City Administrator Brent Hinson said the ceremony, which included an open house walk-through, was delayed due to COVID-19 concerns.
“The Chamber wasn’t doing any ribbon cuttings, basically because of COVID, so we didn’t do anything publicly in October when we moved in,” Hinson said. “Then I became aware that the Chamber was starting to do ribbon cuttings again so I just made sure we got on their schedule.”
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michelle Redlinger said the Chamber was glad to support the event, despite the delay.
“With most of our businesses celebrating an anniversary or not, that can’t really be backed up,” she said. “We believe that celebrating success and growth and continuity in our community is really important, so it’s our chance to help these businesses, help these achievements receive recognition.”
