INDIANAPOLIS — On Oct. 23-25, 10 Washington FFA members attended the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana. During the trip they attended Convention sessions, the FFA Career Show, an Apple Orchard tour, Megan Maroney concert, Three Hills FFA Command Performance Rodeo, FFA Mega Shopping Mall, and a Brazilian steakhouse. Members were also able to attend various workshops and collaborate with other FFA members, colleges and ag businesses from across the country.
During the conference sessions, members were able to listen to national officer retiring addresses, including one from Iowa, and speakers from across the country such as Kevin Wanzer, an inspirational and entertaining speaker, and Temple Grandin an expert and advocate for animal welfare and autism. There were also awards for the career development events and leadership development events that are held every year for the top placing teams in each state. The last general session, on Saturday, was the announcement of the newly elected national FFA officers for the upcoming year.
Money to attend the conference was raised through the sale of FFA fruit, meat, cheese, and candy held every fall, Taco Tuesday that was held in April and the FFA plant sale that was held in spring. Members work hard all year to raise enough funds to attend conferences and other activities that they would otherwise have to pay for out of their own pocket. Thank you to the Washington Community, the FFA Alumni and the Washington School Board for allowing the FFA members the opportunity to attend and experience the National FFA Convention.
