Eleven members of the Washington FFA attended the 96th Annual FFA Leadership Conference held on April 14-16, 2024 in Ames. Members participated in different activities such as convention sessions, a career show, career development events and leadership development events. They were also able to watch other FFA members perform in a talent show, attend a bar-b-que and enjoy an evening of dancing at the Fun Night that was available to members. All attendees had many hours to network with other chapters, future schools and employers. All attendees were able to participate in different activities and learn while they were at Conference.
Some of the chapter highlights are:
- Tess Berdo, Lauren Lukavsky, and Jade Sheetz received their Iowa FFA Degree and went across stage at the final session to receive their State Degree. There were 796 degrees awarded this year. Only 3% of the Iowa FFA members receive this honor which is the highest honor that the Iowa FFA can award. This degree is based on their involvement in FFA and their Supervised Agricultural Experience that they keep records on.
- Taylor Bartholomew participated in the Job Interview LDE where she had to interview for a job in front of the judges and received a Silver rating.
- Braydon Clough participated in the Greenhand Quiz where he took a 100 point test on FFA knowledge and received a Silver rating.
- Taylor Moore and Madison Conway participated in the Chapter Exhibit Contest. Their exhibit was about Animal Day that the Washington FFA holds every year and they received a Silver.
- Jade Sheetz, Lauren Lukavsky, Blake Sheetz, and Presley Hora participated in the Team Ag Sales event where they had to sell a drone spraying service to the judges and they received a Silver.
- Emma Taylor was selected to participate in the Iowa FFA Band where she performed in front of all the members at the conference sessions.
- Tess Berdo and Izzy Peterson served as the chapter delegates and were able to vote on the 2024-25 State FFA Officers.
The group was chaperoned by FFA Advisor Barry Clough.
