WASHINGTON — Washington High School will open its doors for public tours on Oct. 16, in an effort to help spread the word of new facilities added during construction over the last year. The open house will run from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Superintendent Willie Stone said the event was open to all, intended to thank everyone whose taxes helped fund the facility improvements.
“This is for anybody in the community that wants to come in and look,” he said. “They’ve supported us by passing a bond, and this part of the project is worth around $22 million.”
The open house will highlight a new commercial-style kitchen used for culinary classes, a two-story wing added to the building, an updated art classroom and a new gymnasium.
Construction is now underway for the project’s second phase, a $6.5 million endeavor that will renovate much of the building’s east wing.
