Washington implements changes to garbage collection

To better protect sanitation workers from the COVID-19 illness, the City of Washington and Johnson County Refuse are announcing the following changes for an undetermined amount of time:

1) Until further notice, all garbage or recycling needs to fit in the appropriate bin (no additional tagged bags or flattened cardboard will be picked up); and

2) Bulky item pickup will be suspended.

Residents may request an additional 65-gallon garbage container for $13.25/month or an additional 95-gallon recycling container for $5.50/month. Please contact City Hall to make arrangements.

No decision has yet been made regarding the status of the Spring Cleanup Event, currently scheduled for April 18. A decision will be made and announced regarding that event by Monday, April 6.
