WASHINGTON — The Washington Public Library will throw a party in the alley behind its building this Sunday. The event celebrates participation in this year’s summer reading challenge, in which community members of all ages completed over 4,000 tasks assigned by the book-tracking Beanstack app.
Organizers say the event will have games, face painting, music, snow cones, cotton candy, balloon animals, drawings, and a library card sign-up drive.
Family Services Librarian Alison Greiner said staff were stoked about the event, as well as readers’ enthusiasm in the summer challenges.
"Our summer reading program is the highlight of our summer,“ she said. ”It’s really a celebration of those people taking their time and efforts to read and make it a worthwhile event.“
The Library Fun Fest is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, in the alley behind the building. In the event of rain, Greiner said the group would move indoors to the building’s upstairs meeting rooms.
