Washington man charged with insurance fraud

WASHINGTON — Thomas Stephanie, age 46, of Washington, was charged with one count of Insurance Fraud for allegedly Presenting False Information (a Class D felony) following an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau. The agency announced findings of its investigation, which began in June, on Monday.

“According to criminal complaints filed by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau, Stephanie provided false statements to an insurer in connection with a workers’ compensation insurance claim,” the news release said. “Stephanie received insurance benefits due to these false statements.”

The man was arrested and brought to the Jefferson County Jail, where he posted a $5,000 bond and was released, according to the agency.
