WASHINGTON — Contrary to a schedule on the city calendar, there was no Municipal Band performance before Washington’s July 4 fireworks show Sunday night.
A band member said there was a “communication error,” and that the band was not aware of the plan for a performance.
City event coordination secretary Alisha Davis said she and City Clerk Sally Hart thought the plan went without saying.
“When I talked to Sally Hart, she said what time the fireworks would go off … and I asked if the muni band would play before,” Davis said. “She said, ‘Yes, they usually play prior to that,’ and that’s where we left it.”
Davis said she was surprised the band didn’t perform.
“They’ve always done it in the past, and when I talked to them earlier this year I had thought they said they were doing it,” she said. “I had thought they were going forward with it.”
