WASHINGTON — City council members voted unanimously Tuesday night to appoint Amanda Waugh as Washington’s new city clerk, a month and a half after the departure of former clerk Sally Hart.
“After a process where we received 22 applications, narrowed it to four finalists, conducted first and second interviews, and did extensive background work, our search committee is recommending Amanda Waugh as our new city clerk,” a memo from City Administrator Deanna McCusker said. “We are confident she will do a wonderful job for us in her new role. She plans to begin her employment on Nov. 27, 2023.”
Waugh attended the council’s Tuesday night meeting to prepare to take on the role.
In a brief interview after the meeting, she said she was excited to get started.
“I’m very excited, I’m from a small town, I grew up in Hedrick, lived in the Keota area, Kalona area for a long time, so I’m very familiar with Washington,” she said. “I really look forward to working with everybody in the community, and helping improve things.”
