Washington offers annual cleanup day for residents

WASHINGTON - The Washington fall cleanup will take place this Saturday for city residents.
Random junk, furniture, appliances and electronics can be dropped off at the Yard Waste Center at 1065 W. Buchanan St. from 7 to 11 a.m. It's also the site of the city's wastewater treatment plant.
This yearly event provides an opportunity for residents to clean out items that cannot be taken on trash day. Residents must bring an ID or copy of utility bill to dispose items. Residents are also asked to stay in their vehicle.
Stickers can be purchased at City Hall for appliances and TVs, or paid in cash at the cleanup.
The following items are allowed:
' General junk (small loose materials need to be put into cardboard boxes, no bags).
' Bulky furniture items such as couches, mattresses, box springs, recliners – free.
' Appliances-($5 fee).
' Electronics – free (except for old tube TV's & CRT computer monitors- (they are $15). Computers & accessories may be taken to Goodwill for free.
' Lawn mowers and lawn equipment must be gas and oil free for disposal.
The following items are not allowed:
' Household garbage not allowed.
' Household hazardous waste.
' Hazardous materials such as but not limited to explosives, drugs, materials soaked in volatile chemicals.
' Tires and waste oil.
' Construction materials.
' Concrete, brick and rock.
' Latex paint
' Lawn mowers and lawn equipment that are not gas and oil free
' Items from outside the Washington city limits
