Washington police arrest man accused of violating no-contact order after domestic assault case

WASHINGTON — Washington Police Department officers assisted in the arrest of a local man for allegedly violating a no-contact order related to a Linn County case in which he faced multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

At approximately 10:38 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, officers arrested Drake Paul Kron, 22, of Washington, in the 200 block of North Marion Avenue.

The alleged violation stems from a September case in which Kron was charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons and False Report to Public Safety Entities, both Class D felonies. He was also charged with Domestic Abuse Assault — impeding flow of air/blood and Domestic Abuse Assault — display or use of a weapon, both aggravated misdemeanors. Additional charges included two counts of Domestic Abuse Assault — injury or mental illness and fourth-degree theft, both serious misdemeanors, along with Obstruction of Emergency Communications.

According to court records, the alleged victim was strangled, bitten, and threatened with her own gun. The criminal complaint also states that Kron took the victim’s phone to prevent her from calling emergency services, left with her gun, and “contacted the police department to report an active shooter at Lindale Mall,” allegedly to divert resources and leave town following the assault.

A no-contact order was issued Sept. 9. Kron posted a $15,000 bond on Sept. 11. On Nov. 4, a report alleging that Kron violated the no-contact order was filed with the court.

Sixth Judicial District Court of Iowa Judge Michael Harris issued a bench warrant for Kron the following day. The warrant was issued statewide with no bond.

The case remains open in Linn County.
