WASHINGTON — Real Estate Agent Jenny Morgan won the “Gold Star Award” from the Iowa City Area Association of Realtors last week. The accolade is granted to industry professionals deemed the “top agents to work with,” based on voting by their peers, according to a press release.
Morgan said she was surprised by the recognition, but honored, as an association member that doesn’t operate as much in the Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty markets. She’s only the third Washington County-based real estate agent to win the award, according to ICAAR CEO Megan Flewellyn.
“It’s really special that somebody that’s not a big dog — that’s a little dog — down here in Washington, gets this award,” Morgan said. “I was shocked, because we do a lot with (the) association, but we’re also kind of out of sight, out of mind. So it definitely made me feel pretty special to get that award.”
The agent added that she didn’t know she’d receive the award at the start of the night, and even had to be “tricked into” attending the award ceremony by a coworker. The event, informally known to some participants as ‘realtor prom’ was held at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City.
Still, once the surprise wore off, Morgan was proud of the accomplishment, and happy to hear of the positive impact she’d had on other members of the association.
“I think a lot of people look at other realtors as the competition, and I always look at it as, they’re your colleagues, they’re the ones that are going to help you get your property sold,” she said. “I always try to be helpful, because when I was brand-new, I didn’t know what I was doing, and I dealt with some realtors that were helpful and nice to me … you never know who’s new and needs that guidance.”
