Washington reminds residents: fireworks in town are illegal

Washington City Ordinance 47.14(3)(a) says — The use or explosion of consumer fireworks within the City is prohibited.

Iowa Code 727.2(3)(c)(1) says in part — “A person who uses or explodes consumer fireworks or novelties while the use of such devices is prohibited … by ordinance … commits a simple misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not less than two hundred fifty dollars.”

Please do your part to celebrate safely and keep in mind the disturbance and sometimes anxiety the fireworks can cause your neighbors and their pets.
