Washington residents reminded to clear sidewalks
N/A
Dec. 9, 2019 12:00 am
The City of Washington would like to remind property owners that they are responsible for keeping their sidewalks free from snow and ice. The property owner and/or occupant of any building shall clear the public sidewalk of all snow and/or ice accumulation within 24 hours after the snow has ceased or ice formed. If the property owner and/or occupant fail to remove the ice and snow, the City may do so and the cost of the removal will be levied against the property.
The City would also remind property owners and snow removal contractors that it is unlawful to remove snow or ice from private property and deposit the same upon any public street, right of way, alley or sidewalk. This includes blocking sidewalks, impeding the passage of vehicles and/or pedestrian traffic or creating a hazardous condition on the street. Anyone with questions about snow removal in the City of Washington can contact City Hall at 319-653-6584 Ext. 124.
