Washington resumes yard waste pickup program

The city of Washington has resumed its yard waste pickup program.

Yard waste will be picked up by the city’s Maintenance and Construction Department.

Yard waste pickup days correspond with garbage days:

• Monday and Tuesday garbage days will be picked up on Tuesdays.

• Wednesday and Thursday garbage days will be picked up on Thursdays.

The city is no longer supplying yard waste bags.

Yard waste must be in biodegradable, self-standing yard bags that can be purchased at several local retailers. Plastic bags are not allowed.

Yard waste can also be taken to the compost area located at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, 1065 W. Buchanan St.

Residents are encouraged to bring their yard waste to the plant for composting.

The Yard Waste Center is open from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday and 7-10 a.m., Saturdays through May 15.
