Washington Square lights up for parade
Washington?s square was lined with people Friday night to witness the 14th Annual Lighted Holiday Parade. Attendees saw Santa Claus on a motorcycle, a group of people wearing Christmas trees on their heads and, of course, dozens of nicely decorated floats. Washington?s square was lined with people Friday night to witness the 14th Annual Lighted Holiday Parade. Attendees saw Santa Claus on a motorcycle, a group of people wearing Christmas trees on their heads and, of course, dozens of nicely decorated floats. Main Street Washington Director Amy Vetter said the parade went as planned and that she was very pleased with how it turned out.
?We heard lots of great things about the parade,? said Vetter. ?I think people like coming out for this parade because it is so special.?
Vetter said that nearly all of the businesses on the square put up lights around the outline of their building, which added to the downtown?s glow that evening. She said there were roughly 70 parade entries including the floats and the walking entries. Vetter remarked that there have been years when the parade boasted 100 entries. Nevertheless, she was happy with the community?s involvement this year.
The route of the parade was changed this year, which Vetter said made organizing it ?very hectic.? Instead of starting on Washington Street as the parade has in previous years, the parade entries were lined up outside the high school. Vetter said that three roads had to be blocked off around the school to allow enough space for all of the entries.
