WASHINGTON — As rain poured down outside, Washington upperclassmen congregated at the high school for a Hollywood-themed prom Saturday night.
Alex Murphy, a member of the National Honor Society, which planned the evening, said she was pleased with the execution.
“We had this big idea to have the stage and everything, have us walk down the stage, I think it looks really nice, that that worked out,” she said. “We’ve never done anything like that.”
The setup certainly took some by surprise.
Keaton Gobush, a student from Van Buren County who attended the prom with Washington Junior Francis Guzman, said it wasn’t what he expected.
“I thought prom was going to be a lot less crowded,” he said.
As students walked off the red carpet, they were greeted with high-fives and fist bumps from Principal Teresa Beenblossom. She said it was rewarding to see kids having a fun night.
“I want to make sure that I connect with all the kids as they’re leaving (the gym) today,” she said. “They’ve all smiled, they all fist bumped me, and it’s awesome to see them all dressed up and doing something different than just school. There’s no expectation tonight but to have fun.”
