Washington Summer Classic, Latino Fest officially canceled
May. 1, 2020 2:06 pm
WASHINGTON - It will not be a classic Washington summer after all. The annual three-day celebration and Latino Fest that rounds out the weekend have been canceled due to concerns over COVID-19.
The event was originally scheduled for June 4-6 and was canceled by the Chamber of Commerce which sponsors the event over concerns about social distancing and social gathering limitations, according to a news release. The Latino Fest, scheduled for June 7, was previously canceled by its committee. 'The board is looking for ways to provide events for the community that are permissible within the state's COVID-19 guidelines and that would provide for the safety of the public to enjoy,” the release states.
Some events, like Ridiculous Days, will continue but with a modified twist, it said. No parade will take place this year but sales will be held online to encourage shopping local.
The annual golf tournament still is scheduled with a grab-and-go meal planned but is subject to change and may be rescheduled for later in the year, the release stated. The annual craft fair has been rescheduled for Sept. 12, 2020. The fate of other outdoor activities in Central Park, such as Thursday Night Live, will be discussed by the board later this month.
