The new Washington County Ambulance Department still has not found a home.
Meeting in special session Wednesday, June 3, the Washington County Board of Supervisors instructed County Auditor Dan Widmer, County Treasurer Jeff Garrett and Supervisor Stan Stoops to work with Elliott Realty to secure an adequate facility to house the new department which is to become operational July 1. The supervisors set Friday, June 8 at 9 a.m. as a tentative date for a closed session meeting to discuss site selection for the service.
After weeks of tabling the subject of the county leasing or purchasing the assets of Washington County Ambulance, Inc. to be used by the county ambulance service, the issue was taken off the table altogether June 1. It was listed on the agenda for the supervisors' regular meeting on that date but Supervisor Jack Seward Jr. reported that Washington County Ambulance Inc. was no longer interested in pursuing the agreement with the county. There was no further discussion on the matter. Washington County Ambulance, Inc. is listed for sale.
The board went into closed session at the end of the June 1 meeting to discuss real estate matters but took no action on anything. When asked what was discussed Seward was unable to comment since the meeting was held in closed session. When asked where the ambulance service would be located he said, 'That's what we're trying to figure out.”
