WASHINGTON – Much of the discussion at the regular meeting of the Washington County Board of Supervisors Tuesday had to do with approval of an application for a Community Development Block Grant to obtain housing funds from the Iowa Economic Authority. Steps that needed approval in the process included:
' A contract for the block grant services.
' An equal opportunity policy.
' An anti-displacement and relocation assistance plan.
' A prohibition of the uses of excessive forces policy.
' Public notice regarding affirmative fair housing policy.
' A code of conduct.
' A signature authorization and a procurement policy.
No county funds would be required to match the grant.
The supervisors approved an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for work to be done on Riverside Road from 190th Street to Spruce Avenue. Bids will be let in January 2021. The amount of money available for the project from a state block grant program is up to $2.5 million.
The supervisors passed a resolution approving an application to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for a grant to help cover the cost of the purchase of portable ventilators. The deadline for submitting grant applications is Sept. 25.
In other business the supervisors:
' Approved a personnel request in the County Engineer's department to change the pay rate of David Patterson from $42.31 to $43.31 per hour and move him from temporary to full time.
' Approved a Conservation Department personnel request to change the pay rate of Megan Jorgensen from $22.22 to $22.97 per hour.
' Approved a Sheriff's Office personnel request to change the pay rate of Ellie Todd from $17.52 to $18.27 per hour.
' Passed a resolution proclaiming September Voter Registration Month and discussed a COVID-19 update.
