Washington treasurer says property taxes due Sept. 1

First half real estate and mobile home taxes in Washington County are due Sept. 1 and must be paid by Sept. 30 to avoid penalty.

On Oct. 1, a penalty of 1½% per month (rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a $1 minimum) will be attached to the property taxes.

Statement coupons must accompany payments. Payments should be mailed to the Washington County Treasurer at P.0. Box 889, Washington, IA, 52353, put in the drop box located by the west door of the courthouse or paid online at iowatreasurers.org.

Payments sent by mail must have a postal service postmark date of Sept. 30 or before, to avoid penalty.

Predated checks are not accepted as a substitute for the proper postmark.
