Washington may get electric vehicle chargers downtown.
During the Tuesday night City Council meeting, the council approved a grant for an electrical vehicle charge station not to exceed $15,000.
Council member Millie Youngquist said this grant is a project from the hotel and motel committee.
The grant is part of a limited time program through the state, said City Administrator Brent Hinson.
The proposed chargers would be installed by the Dodici Night Suites.
'We really wanted something that is visible,” he said.
Council member Fran Stigers asked who pays for the electricity. Hinson said the users.
The cost of equipment is $8,200 and the rest is for labor, a five-year plan for software upgrades and maintenance.
In the future, Hinson said there are other possible locations in the future such as Fareway or Hy-Vee.
