Washington woman wins $100,000 lottery prize
Apr. 29, 2021 12:09 pm
Her favorite ticket was sold out, so a Washington woman bought one in a different lottery game – and won $100,000.
Jessica Cooper, 49, of Washington won the fourth top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “$100,000 Cash” scratch game.
After her overnight shift ended at Casey’s, on East Washington Street in Washington, she clocked out and purchased a ticket to take home.
“I went home and scratched my ticket, and I about fell over,” Cooper told Iowa Lottery officials Monday as she claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Clive.
She said she immediately called her husband, Raymond, who was working at a different gas station in town.
“He thought I was pulling his leg, so I took a picture of it and said, ‘See? I’m not lying,’” Cooper said. “He definitely believed me then.”
Cooper, a mother of four, said that she and her husband have plans for their winnings.
“We’re going to put a down payment on a house and buy a second vehicle so that we have more room in our vehicle for our teenagers,” she said.
The $100,000 Cash game is a $10 scratch game that features eight top prizes of $100,000.
