WASHINGTON — Matching grants from KCTC and a partner business called Aureon have added a combined $10,000 to the YMCA of Washington County’s indoor pool fund.
“We are thrilled to be the recipients of this grant for our community pool project,” Y of Washington County CEO Amy Schulte said. “This generous support from KCTC and Aureon will enable us to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all members of our community … We are deeply grateful to the grant providers for their commitment to improving community resources and their confidence in our vision.”
The money brings the Y that much closer to its goal. The organization is now has $272,000 left to cover the costs of the 12,440 square foot, roughly $8.2 million aquatic facility, after years of fundraising, according to Washington Y Marketing and Communications Director Taylor Hansen.
The pool’s expected completion in December is much-anticipated by community members, not only because it’s been in planning and fundraising stage for years. The previous indoor aquatic center — also run by the Y — was closed indefinitely due to equipment failures in March, two months shy of its 100th year in service.
The new pool is expected to finish construction in September. Once open, it will provide an all-seasons facility complete with a six competition-length swimming lanes, a recreational swimming area, a whirlpool, a sauna, and spectator seating for swim meets.
