Aurora Healing Gardens in Washington offers a wide variety of services, from counseling to sensory deprivation baths to energy healing to massage therapy. It is the only institution of its kind in Washington County.
Founded by Dawn and Tharren Keith — a trauma therapist and an artist respectively- the two moved into the building in 2024. This property, formerly the headquarters of a construction company, underwent serious reconstruction. What was once “one big room with a lot of cement and gravel” became the couple’s dream. A garage became an events venue, capable of holding 75 people. A gravel parking lot became a lush, fenced garden, integral to Dawn’s vision for her therapy practice. Five offices were constructed, into which moved therapists and masseuses.
The result was what Dawn described as a trauma-informed space, one well-suited for the healing process. Everything, Dawn said, is designed to comfort the traumatized. Each chair faces the nearest exit. This is intentional; the goal is to create a calming, centering space, where all may feel welcome.
The construction of this place, the culmination of Dawn’s dreams, was, of course, a group effort. She thanked her contractor, Craig Dalrymple, as well as Fred Meyer, of Backyard Abundance in Iowa City. They were instrumental in realizing this vision.
According to Aurora’s website, “The acre of healing gardens includes several tranquil sitting areas, a central space for ceremonies, and even a rowboat sandbox and mud pie kitchen for kids, enhancing both capacity and the overall experience.” The experience of walking the trails of the garden, Dawn holds to be conducive to the healing process.
The center regularly holds yoga, offered in partnership with Blissed Out Wellness and Sangha Yoga. The space is also available to rent, for parties, art exhibitions, and other events requiring a large space.
