Construction of the Fairfield Wastewater Treatment Plant?s backup generator is on schedule, councilman Daryn Hamilton reported Monday.
He said the plant should be ready to switch to its new power system with the backup generator April 17.
The $1.2 million project involved wiring throughout the plant and a small expansion of the existing control building. An upgraded emergency power system was mandated by the Department of Natural Resources.
Hamilton said work on the biosolids storage tank also is progressing and is currently focused on inner workings of the tank.
The $3.5 million project includes installation of a 1.1 million gallon, glass-coated steel tank for the storage of excess sludge, as well as two buildings to house pumps and controls.
Hamilton said sewer and water projects that recently came in under bid have given the city an additional $93,000 to spend on other projects in the near future.
