Winfield had close to four inches of rain yesterday, according to reports, from several thunderstorms that visited the area. The thunderstorms were especially powerful in the late afternoon and resulted in the flooding of farm yards and ditches along Highway 78. There was at least one stretch on Highway 78 where water was running over the road. The rain also caused flooding on a number of streets in Winfield. In addition to the downpours in the northeast part of the county, an unconfirmed tornado was sited between Swedesburg and Olds late Thursday afternoon. Today and Saturday?s forecast calls for hot and humid weather with the heat index predicted to top 100 degrees today.
