LOCKRIDGE - Three years into major water system improvements in Lockridge, the city is now getting ready to move forward with the construction of a 100,000 gallon water tower.
According to Lockridge Mayor Kenneth McCarty, construction of the four-lane Highway 34 required the city to move its water main, so the city decided it was an appropriate time to upgrade.
"It's one of the best things that ever happened to the city of Lockridge," McCarty said of the water system.
The water system project began by installing new, larger water mains from the east edge of Fairfield to Lockridge city limits, and this year, the city replaced and upgraded all of the concrete asbestos waterlines within the city.
Now the plans are for a four-legged water tower to be erected west of the old Lockridge school building in the northeast corner of what use to be the teacher's parking lot, McCarty said. The water tower will be a backup water supply and will help resolve water pressure issues within the city, as well as provide the fire department with needed water pressure.
