Olds Lions meet
Olds Lions Club held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 8. Lion Fred Roth provided the main entrée of turkey tenderloins for the potluck dinner.
Following the dinner, President Lion Ray Meth called the meeting to order. Agenda items included recruitment of new members, renewing the contract with the IDOT for highway cleanup, determining a date for the spring highway cleanup, reports on the Mt. Pleasant Pizza Ranch ?tip night,? Iowa Eye Bank tissue transports and planning a field trip.
A second ?tip night? is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Washington Pizza Ranch.
Lion Scott Meth announced that he had received an invitation for the annual recognition ceremony of the Iowa Lions Eye Bank held in the University of Iowa?s Healing Garden.
The event will be held May 29, at 3 p.m. Tissue transporters, doctors of the past year, along with donors and their families, are acknowledged for their dedication to this program.
Tentative plans were made for a visit to the Newton Correctional Facility, date to be announced, with late June or early July discussed. Leader Dogs and Rescue Dogs are trained by inmates at this facility and the club will have the opportunity to see first hand some of the work that goes into training these animals for use by the blind and rescue units.
Meetings will be suspended during July and August, resuming again next September with a picnic in the park with the meeting open to the public. Persons interested in becoming Lions are welcome to attend this meeting.
Contact President Ray Meth at 319-254-2129 if interested in attending or for additional information about becoming a member.
