WAYLAND ? WACO City Council members faced a light agenda Wednesday night and it took the council less than 10 minutes to sweep the night?s business from the table.
The lone agenda items were approving a bid from LL Pelling Co. of North Liberty for summer street repair and acting on a quote to replace a damaged basketball backboard at West Park.
LL Pelling will use chip-and-seal and cold-mix patching to repair seven streets and two alleys. The firm is charging $2.05 per square yard for the chip-and-seal and $205 per ton for the cold-mix patching. The work will cost the city $16,750.55 with road-use tax funds being used to pay the bulk of the bill.
?This will get everything in pretty good shape,? said Mayor Bradley Roth after the council approved the bid and work. Roth said the amount of work done and money spent ?runs about the same every year.?
Streets that will be repaired this summer include Brooks, Washington, Third, Meyer Place, Cleveland, Franklin Avenue (W55) and Adams. The alleys include one on Jefferson and the other stretches from Cleveland to Jackson streets.
The council accepted a bid from Goalsetter of Lynville for the basketball backboard. The 42x72 acrylic board will cost $550. The city will not have the board delivered but rather pick it up, saving $150 in delivery costs.
Council members will meet again in regular session Wednesday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall.
