WAYLAND ? The Wayland City Council quickly finished up business for the month of September during its meeting Wednesday night.
The agenda contained only four items and after brief discussion, the council approved each item. The first on the agenda was to review quotes and authorize the purchase of backhoe tires. They unanimously approved the purchase of two front tires from Terry Farmer Services, of Wayland, for $388.13.
Other equipment purchases Wednesday night included the authorization for the city to purchase a new locator for $917.00. City Clerk Beverly Conrad noted that there was a $200 rebate on the equipment so it would only end up costing the city $717. Conrad said the locator the city currently has is getting to the point where it is unable to be repaired.
During the meeting, the council also renewed an agreement with STS Natural Gas Service for another three years.
Lastly, the council approved the tax abatement application for Richard and Candace Shadden for a new 2,100 square foot ranch home at 709 North Kennedy St.
Mayor Brad Roth noted that approving tax abatements help the city because it makes building within city limits more appealing, which provides increased tax revenue for the city in the long run.
Building permits approved included one for Delmer Wagler. Wagler?s permit was to reroof his home at 215 Second St. John Clark?s permit to reroof his house at 407 West Fourth St. was also approved.
The next meeting of the Wayland City Council will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m., in City Hall.
