WAYLAND ? The city is ready to put a stop to unauthorized vehicles on city streets.
The only item of unfinished business Wednesday night for the Wayland City Council was that of unauthorized vehicles, like UTVs, running amuck on city streets.
Earlier this year, the council received a petition asking the city to allow UTVs on city streets. The council debated the item, but made no decision.
City Clerk Beverly Conrad said the council authorized the city attorney, Mike Vance, to draft an ordinance regarding the use of UTVs within the city. As for what that ordinance will say, Conrad said it is still in the works.
In other business, the council also considered three options for a Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission (SEIRPC) spec house within the North Plain subdivision. Conrad said the council selected the second option. ?It basically has SEIRPC put together the request for proposals to be sent out to contractors and then says SEIRPC will then help the city sell the house (once complete),? said Conrad.
The subdivision already has several houses that call the area home.
Conrad said the city is excited for the spec house.
In other business, the council approved a change order and authorized the second draw request for Leichty and Sons for the Cummings Street Project. The draw request was for $75,472.76.
During the meeting, the council also approved sending the annual financial report for publication with the state auditor as well as a tax abatement application for MD Orthopaedics. The tax abatement will be for a frame storage building at 604 North Parkway and a 52?X20? steel building addition with a 20?X20? basement.
Lastly, the council set Oct. 31 as Trick or Treat Night. The hauntings shall occur from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The next meeting of the Wayland City Council will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall.
