WAYLAND ? Ben Leichty?s turkey farm will be showcasing how modern farmers are caring for the environment. The public is invited to meet at the former Wayland Stockyards Thursday, Sept. 8, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m.
The Coalition to Support Iowa?s Farmers (CSIF) is hosting the event that includes a free lunch and a workshop at the Leichty farm highlighting a newly installed shelterbelt.
?The purpose of the workshop is to showcase responsible and successful livestock farming through the planting of windbreaks and shelterbelts,? said Brian Waddingham, CSIF Executive Director.
The shelterbelt on the Leichty farm is part of CSIF?s Green Farmstead Partner program. The program is a combined effort of CSIF, Trees Forever and the Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association.
