Wayland man charged with criminal mischief after setting wife’s belongings on fire

WAYLAND - A Wayland man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree after setting fire to his wife's personal belongings.
According to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 2:21 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, officers responded to a report of a disturbance taking place at 103 West Second Street in Wayland. Upon arrival, officers discovered Christian Antonio Moran Soto, 38, intentionally set fire to his wife's belongings after an altercation that took place in Washington.
Deputies searched the property but were not able to find Soto at that time. At approximately 8:48 a.m. that same day, authorities were notified Soto returned to the residence and was threatening his wife.
Henry County Deputies and the Iowa State Patrol responded and located Soto. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Henry County Jail where he was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree for causing damage to approximately $1,000-1,500 worth of his wife's belongings.
