WAYLAND ? The City of Wayland is holding the line on property taxes for the fiscal 2018 budget.
During its regular meeting Wednesday night, the council hosted a public hearing and later approved the budget with a property tax levy of $7.35 per $1,000 taxable valuation, which is identical to the levy fueling the fiscal 2017 budget.
No written or oral comments were received by the council prior to or during the public hearing on the budget.
Water rates will be going up 30 cents per 1,000 gallons in the community. City Clerk Bev Conrad said the increase is needed to offset costs. ?Chemicals and softener salt costs have increased,? she explained.
In other financial matters, the council authorized Mayor Bradley Roth to sign the 2017 fireworks agreement. The city pays $2,500 for fireworks during the Fourth of July celebration. ?It is our way of giving back to the community,? Conrad said.
The council also approved a $100 donation to the Wayland After-Prom Committee.
Council members meet again in regular session Wednesday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall.
