WAYLAND ? Frank Bruty Constuction, of Washington, was the only bidder on sidewalk work this summer in Wayland.
Bruty?s bid was accepted by the Wayland City Council Wednesday night. Under terms of the contract, sidewalks will be 48 inches wide and 3-5/8 inches thick.
The contractor also did the work last summer and this year?s prices include (last year?s prices for identical work is in parenthesis): pouring sidewalk on top of old concrete or the ground, $13.47 per linear foot ($12.60); added cost for removal of old sidewalks and grading, $3.95 per linear foot ($4.00); added cost for sidewalk dug into the ground, $5.85 per linear foot ($5.25); removal of unseen objects and tree roots, $28.50 ($28).
There is no set amount of work for the sidewalk program this year. The program covers both residential and city property. For residential property, the city pays 50 percent of the sidewalk cost in the city right-of-way.
Council members hosted and passed the first reading on an ordinance amendment establishing salaries and payment schedules for elected officials. The ordinance concerns the salary of the mayor. Currently, Mayor Bradley Roth is paid $5,400 in annual salary for his mayoral duties and another $4,800 annually for administrative duties.
The ordinance amendment eliminates the $4,800 annual compensation for administrative duties.
Nominations of Ethan Starr and Jeremy McLaughlin to three-year terms on the zoning commission were approved. City code allows members to serve two three-year terms. Starr and McLaughlin are new appointments to the board.
The renewal of a Class C on-premise liquor, wine and beer license was approved for The Bar.
Council members also learned the following construction permits were approved: Don Crowl, re-siding of house and shed; Abbe Kaufman, 12x10x8-foot metal storage shed; Jayne Borchardt, 14x10-foot shade room; Kelly Hartzler, re-roof and re-side house, replace 12 windows and the front door; Joe Kauffman, re-roof house.
Wayland?s council meets again in regular session Wednesday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall.
