WAYLAND ? It?s just a quiet time of year, according to Wayland City Clerk Beverly Conrad.
That statement proved to be true as only a handful of items appeared on the agenda Wednesday night.
During the meeting, the council reviewed bids for a new utility truck. The city received six bids on three different brands of trucks. The city currently has two utility trucks, both are Fords, but at the previous meeting, the council agreed the brand of truck they purchased did not matter.
There were three bids on Ford trucks: Mincer Ford at $25,140, Capper-Williamsburg at $25,527, and Deery-Iowa City Morman Trek at $26,054. The bids on Dodge Ram trucks came in at $25,302 and $25,790 from Capper-Willamsburg and Deery-Iowa City Highway 1, respectively. And Shottenkirk had the lone Chevy bid at $28,798.
?The extras we got were running boards, the trailer and tow package and power package, which was all included in the bids,? Mayor Brad Roth said.
Councilman Aaron Barnhart inquired as to where the city took vehicles for repairs. And Councilman Chet Fort asked where the previous two utility trucks were purchased.
The Mayor responded that the trucks are taken to Mincer Ford for repairs and as for where the two trucks were purchased; one came from Mincer and the other from Deery.
As the bids were so close in price, the council decided to go with the lowest bid ? Mincer Ford, in Washington.
?Do they have (the truck) or do we have to wait for it,? inquired Councilwoman Melinda Ullery.
Conrad confirmed the vehicle would have to be ordered, and that was true for each dealership.
In other business, the council:
? Set a special meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m., for a budget workshop.
? Approved a subordination agreement for the Community Development Block Grant Housing Program.
? Approved revisions to the personnel policy manual.
Despite the evening?s agenda being light, Roth reminded his board that there are many projects buzzing in the background and before they know it, things will become a whole lot busier.
One of those items that will keep the city busy are repairs on the city?s sewer system. Previously, the council authorized Jim Warner, of Warner Engineering in Mt. Pleasant, to do a TV inspection of the city?s sewer lines. The TV inspection allows Warner to send a video cable through the sewer lines, giving him a live view of the line?s condition.
The council was suppose to discuss the results of the sewer television and the immediate repairs on Washington Street, but the item was tabled until Warner could get prices on the repairs.
According to the Mayor, there are some sections of the line that the pipe was never placed inside of the sleeve and since, the sleeve has ?rusted out.?
?We don?t know what we have to do to fix it yet,? said Roth. ?We may be able to put a liner in it or we may have to put a pipe in there.?
The council will continue the discussion on the sewer line at a future meeting.
The council will meet next in regular session on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall.
