Due to the large amount of snow that fell Tuesday evening into Wednesday, the Feb. 2 edition of The Washington Evening Journal wasn?t delivered to newspaper routes in Washington. The Feb. 2 edition will be delivered with today?s Feb. 3 edition.
The Feb. 2 edition did get out to mailbox subscribers. Due to several requests from area emergency responders for people not to travel except for emergency situations, the decision was made to wait a day for carrier routes to be delivered. The administration and staff of The Washington Evening Journal thank subscribers for their patience as The Journal staff are dealing with the aftermath of the Blizzard of 2011.
?We tried to get the Feb. 2 edition out to as many places as possible,? Washington Evening Journal editor David Hotle said. ?When you get over 15 inches of snow, there is very little that won?t be affected.?
Rack papers were delivered to some businesses in town. Many businesses had been closed due to the weather or to workers being unable to travel through the deep snow that remained on the streets.
Hotle said that many people working at The Journal were unable to make it through some of the 10-foot-tall plus snowdrifts to put the Feb. 2 edition together. He said a seven-person skeleton crew worked to get the edition out. Press time was moved up to the middle of the morning with the hopes of getting the edition out before predicted sub-zero temperatures fell over the area.
The full stories from the edition were posted on The Washington Evening Journal Web site. Hotle said that The Journal staff is also trying to post the latest information regarding the recovery from the blizzard on The Journal Web site.
